| I have a sharp 32" lcd tv. When connecting this via the hdmi output, it will stretch anything that is in the old 4x3 square format. VHS and DVD's. It should have black bars on the sides. It does not stretch the using the other outputs, but you get no upconversion that way. The 2nd problem is that the tuner does not record hd signals broadcast in the old 4x3 format properly. It will put black all the way around. ( known as "windowboxed" or "postage stamped") My tv, cheap coverter box or other LG combo unit does not do this. I tried "every possible" adjustment on both the combo and tv and nothing worked for either problem. I'm almost sure it is the problem with the combo unit programing. The vhs to dvd is ok, but tape deck is not the greatest. None are these days. If you have a tape that has been edited, it stops and starts new titles when it should not. A proper machine should stop and start only when you tell it to. The only thing good about this machine is the varrious recording speeds 1hr.30min and 3hr. are the most usefull, and only sony has them for some odd reason. It does not have video adjustments "before" recording like the rdr-gx300 did either. A great feature. Simply speaking, Sony has gone to the dogs. |

| Does it last more than a year? |
| I do not own this product but am interested in buying it. I have owned 3 LG DVD burners and a Panasonic that lasted an average of 3 - 6 months before they gave up the ghost and either stopped recognizing commercially recorded DVDs or wouldnt burn non protected off the air programming (like to watch some TV programs on the road and DVR isnt portable). My question is - has this one lasted for anyone over a year? |

| Nice Unit |
| I replaced an older Sony DVD Player VCR combo with this unit. I received it on 11/11/08, and have recorded one DVD using the 150 minute setting from a VHS tape, and it worked well. I was hoping to transfer all my VHS tapes to DVD, but this unit will not record from a copyright protected VHS tape. I can't blame Sony for this. I recorded a DVD+RW from the digital TV tuner, and this worked really well. I then tried recording to a VHS tape using SP mode from the digital TV tuner, and the picture was the best I had ever viewed from a VHS tape. The unit was not difficult for me to setup. The quick guide was all I needed. I used the owner's manual for the feature details. I would have liked the display to be a little brighter. Also, I could have used one more set of A/V outputs. Even though I am not using the HDMI connection, I still have a very sharp and clear picture on my Sony HD rear projection TV. This unit has a 1080i resolution which is fine for me, because my Sony HD rear projection TV uses the same resolution. In conclusion, after a week of ownership, I am very pleased with this unit. |

| Poor Technology Not what I expect from a SONY product |
We do not have cable in our area. Use UHF antena only. Tuner OK, not as good as my older Sony Monitor/TV. Great there are 4 inputs!!! Front and back.
Too small buttons for Mens fingers. Very poor button VERY SLOW action on remote. Not the latest in picture size choices for our large monitor.
Our town is small. All 4 channels are same digital and analog. I found could not delete ALL the analog channels completely. I had to leave the lowest and highest analog channels for the channel select button to search correctly. You always have to click past the analog channels. Should be a way to specify ANALOG and Digital or DIGITAL only. Can't ADD Digital Channels with out doing a scan. Some of us gotta move the antena to a different alignment to get the other farther out channels. Should be able to program in the correct Digital station numbers to use. Some digital channels are only active during the day.
No station info and schedule buttons!!!!!! A very desirable buttons. So desirable that my husband bought a Digital converter box just so he did not have the problems of (what he now calls MY) Tuner/DVD/VCR remote. Which is ok because now we can record and watch a different channel.
VHS to DVD is great has improved the picture of many of our old VHS tapes. VHS tape advancement is very SLOW and cumbersome!
I looked and tried 2 other VHS/DVD record/tuners. Sony is still better than the other 2 products currently on the market, but it should be better, its a Sony!!!!!

| Excellent, no complaints. Does exactly what it claims to do. Much much better than Panasonic counterpart. Can record digital TV channels to VHS tapes. |
