Another example of SONY at war with its customers
If you order a DVD from Europe and want to play it on this SONY unit, you will find that you have wasted your money. SONY is in bed with the distributors and blocks your playing the DVD. This s not a legal block; it's just SONY in collusion with the film folks to diminish the value of your film collection. So be aware.

This is the same as SONY's decision to no longer support Cablecards in its TVs. This is so the cable companies can overcharge you for the scramble box which gives them much of their profit. The government mandated cablecards for the cable companies so the cable companies do support them but then the cable companies got collusive manufacturers like SONY to help the cable companies defeat what they couldn't defeat themselves.

You will be better to work with a more customer friendly company. SONY is not a good choice.

Worth every penny on the price I have paid
I have got this product for 440 + free shipping from Amazon for last thanksgiving. It's still rocking. I would strongly recommend this. Some thing to be considered before you buy:
1)It's just 1080i
2)The receiver+DVD player is heavy
3) Setting up is not too easy
4) Hard to find volume control for sub woofer
5) Disc loading is very confusing until you find the correct rhythm

Dream System, Installation nightmare! But great sound!
I've read many of the reviews here and only have to add the following:

1. My wife and I are retards as it took us over 3 hours to build this thing out!!! Sony could have designed the construction intelligently but chose to use sub-standard scews which, well, basically screw you over. Very easy to de-thread the screws and we almost ruined one of the stands as they didn't screw in or out easily...

2. Speaker wires are cheap but at least color coded on one end for ease of set-up.

3. All small pieces, like screws and washers, don't come in one simple bag. Had to look for the second set which had falled out during unpacking (remember,m we're obviously retards!!!) :)

4. Building the speakers is almost moronic, specially the back surround sound ones. Again, design could have been way better...

5. Instructions are poor and not in great order.

On the plus side:

IT SOUNDS GREAT!!! Short of an issue we have with one of the rear speakers (I suspect a wire isn't in all the way, which requires us to open it up again), it all worked well... Very powerful system with geat sound quality.

Actually, we've had many systems and I've built many computers. We're not really morons, just a little challenged when there are many small parts that don't fit all that well...

If you like building things, this should be good for you!

Next time, I'll have someone build it for us and save three hours of valuable time.

Loyal SONY Customer
Finally upgraded my SONY SAVA system of 12 years after a lot of research and considering other brands, I am very happy I stayed with SONY. The set up instructions could have been written better, but once you get one speaker done, the rest is easy. Match the color of the cord to the color of the label on back of speaker and you are on your way. Once set up the sound is very good. The wireless rear speakers are awesome. I tested out the system with the movie "U-571" & the house was shaking.... puurrrfeect!

You can spend a lot of money on sound systems, and it was a challenge to find anything this good under $1,000.

Next up is Apple TV for movie downloads.

Very Nice All-inclusive Unit
Sony is a brand that demonstrates solid quality all of the time. The DAV-FX900W kept true to that. The unit as some have said does load and change disks slow but overall this would be the only flaw I've seen. Very nice sound, easy installation and fair amount of customizations. For someone who's looking for a nice unit that's easy to use and offers great sound, this is for you.
