No disappointement
I had been looking for a dc for quite a while now (some 6 months) and finally chose the F30.

I like the cam a lot, now I had used it for about a week.

The menues may take some time to get used to, but is this not the case with all modern electronic devices? Once you have taken your time and played around a little bit, the F30 is very easy to handle, especially because it is not too light as many other cams (e.g. the Panasonic FX01). It is hard to hold a dc really still anyway, but each gram of weight contributes it's share... And at 155g the F30 still is a lightweight. Btw: The F30's built quality is out of question. The whole cam is steelcovered and feels solid (other than the platiclike Canon SD 700 though not as 'tanklike' as a Casio).

Most important to me was the image quality. And the F30 performs extraordinarily in this field. The images are very sharp and clean even in the corners. Colors are reproduced as natural as details are kept well. I still don't see any real competition for the F30 concerning it's ability to capture almost DSLR like image quality up to ISO 800. The Canon SD 700 images I have seen often showed lens originated blur in the corners - a deal breaker for me. Another issue: ISO 400 pictures of the Canon seem to capture less detail than the F30 at ISO 800.

Of course do the pictures of the F30 show noise at ISO 1600 and 3200. But in fact the amount of noise at those ISO's is still at a level, that almost all other dc show at ISO 400 (or 800 respectively). In other words: The Fuji's ISO 1600 is as usable as other dc's ISO 400. Both should be treated with Noise Ninja or Neat Image to get a well printable output beyond 6x4. So where is the problem here? Nobody should expect totally noisefree images at ISO 1600 or 3200 or will otherwise be disappointed even using DSLR's...

Fuji is not lacking any technology - they just went in another direction than most of their competitors in the market. Optimizing the ISO capabilities of its - unique - sensors instead of introducing image stabilization technologies. Some day we may have gotten used to get both in one cam. The question is: Who will be first? Will Fuji integrate IS or will Sony, Canon and Panasonic close the gap sensorwise?

What I would appreciate to make the F30 even better:

An additional image stabilization (I would btw. prefer a NON optical solution like in the Ricoh R4 in order to maintain the best possible lens quality).

A wide angle lense beginning at 28mm.

Good Underwater Camera - Do not buy Fuji until replace xD memory card format !
I will never by a Fuji or Olympus camera again as long as they continue to use a non-mainstream memory card format such as the stupid xD-Picture memory card format.

The camera is good. Both the stills and video are great - even sound comes through nicely using the Fuji underwater case.

However once I discovered that taking and viewing underwater videos is much more interesting than stills I quickly came up against the limits of the stupid xD-Picture memory card format Fuji uses. While you can get a 32GB SD cards for low cost for every other camera on the planet, the highest capacity Xd memory card you can find is a tiny 2GB; fine for stills but sucks for video ( especially when you have to open an underwater case to replace). The xD format is a dead end - do not expect to see increased capacity memory cards.

great camera
I bought this last year, and it works just great! I especially love the fast shooter of 3200 as the maximum. With this feature, I could easily catch those wonderful moments of my husband playing basketball with his buddies.
I hope there would be another good deal as good as the price I bought last year because I happened to crashed it and it could not work any more...

Excellent compact digital camera
The photo quality is great- especially in low light sitauations. We are very happy with our purchase. The quality of video clips are super nice too. The F30 camera is durable, fast, easy to operate & the results are fantastic. I can't think of anything more I would want from a compact digital camera,,,well,, it would be nice if the battery door didn't slide open easily,, we put a piece of scotch tape over ours. Still, worth getting this one.

Great Camera
I bought this camera last year as a gift to myself - it's amazing, beautiful clean shots, hardly any editing neccessary (for red eye reduction etc). The only reason why I did not give it a full 5 star rating - is because the zoom on the camera is only x3 and the digital zoom is not even worth mentioning, however don't be distressed - you can more than make up for it, when editing on your computer using the software that came with the camera.

Sadly, my own was stolen & had it not been for that, I would still be quite content to use it, so now I'm looking into upgrading to either the F31 or F50, but too be honest, I'm more leaning towards the F31 - it's almost exactly the same, but has face recognition!

In a league of its own
I got this camera about a month ago and I just took it with me on a little vacation to Mexico City. I took some amazing pictures. With some work and practice, you'll be able to get great pictures out of this little camera. ALL of my shots were taken without the flash. The natural looking pictures look so much more pleasant to me. I was even able to do hand held night scenes. This camera is well worth the money!
